The
gritty Tullahoma Wildcats hung tough with Hillsboro through
three quarters Friday night, but the speed of the Burros
eventually proved too much as Hillsboro beat Tullahoma
31-3 and put a damper on senior night at chilly Wilkins
Stadium.
Despite
the loss, the Wildcats (3-2, 5-4) can clinch third place
in Region 5-4A with a win in Lawrence Co. during Week
10's regular season finale this Friday. Hillsboro meanwhile
has clinched the region championship and can complete
another spotless season inside region play with a win
over Shelbyville this week.
After
Tullahoma kicker Craig Roper's 44-yard field goal pulled
the Cats within 10-3 with one minute left in the third
quarter, the Burros scored three touchdowns in the next
8:42 to put any doubt about the outcome to rest. Eric
Gordon's 91-yard interception return for a score with
2:40 remaining sealed the Burros win.
